Inspection Resources Services Overview
Concrete X-Ray
When you need to know precisely what is located within your concrete structures, radiography (concrete X-Ray) is the test method you need.
Inspection Resource’s concrete X-Ray service provides a greater level of detail about the size and type of material embedded within concrete decks, CMU, and concrete walls, especially in areas that are congested or contain overlapping systems.
The decision about which test method is best for a given situation depends on a variety of factors including objective, location, building use, and level of detail required. Inspection Resource client service representatives will discuss your specific concrete xray project requirements with you in advance so we can create a test solution that balances your need for detail with budget considerations and time constraints.
X-Ray can be used instead of, or to augment, GPR readings. X-Ray is the best solution for structures where there is zero room for error.
Ground Penetrating Radar
Accurately identifying rebar, post-tension cables, conduits or any other target embedded within concrete structures prior to drilling, cutting, or coring, is essential. Paying for greater detail and accuracy than you need is not. Ground penetrating Radar (GPR) provides a safe, quick and accurate method for identifying pre-and post-tensioned cables, rebar and metallic/non-metallic conduit.
Ground penetrating Radar (GPR) uses radio waves to penetrate concrete and return reflected signals to reveal the subsurface layout of a structure. It is a faster and cost saving method for a great variety of project conditions.
Inspection Resources has both GPR and Concrete X-Ray equipment in-house, we work with clients to determine the optimal testing method for each test location. This way we are able to provide the level of detail required at the most cost-effective price point, with the responsiveness and cost savings of a single source vendor.
Utility Locating
With the majority of construction projects in Southern California located on infill, campus or urban sites, nearly every project requires assessing pre-existing conditions. Unfortunately, as underground utility services are added, moved, or changed, as-built documents often aren’t updated. Utility companies typically only document where their lines are buried. These factors add up to high risk when it comes to excavating without an underground utility assessment.
To offset this risk, Inspection Resources uses a range of nondestructive testing methods such as Concrete X-Ray Services and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR Service) to locate and mark underground utilities. With our ground-penetrating radar, electromagnetic methods along with potholing, iR technicians can accurately identify buried utilities including sewer and septic systems, water pipes, and lines for gas, electricity, telecommunications and cable TV.
Potholing Services
Vacuum Excavation/Potholing is the safest method for locating, accessing, and working around existing infrastructure. Because it uses air excavation to loosen soil, vacuum potholing eliminates the need for conventional digging equipment like backhoes, excavators, or trenchers. Once the soil is loose, it is pulled out of the ground using a vacuum hose.
Vacuum excavation is useful during the site assessment and preliminary design phases of a project to validate and update as-built documents. During the construction phase, it can be used to dig trenches or access utility connection points in tough to reach spots.
Testing & Inspection
All of our technicians are fully OSHA trained, and familiar with all applicable rules and regulations regarding safety.
Our emphases on service requires that we have an inspection team available, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This becomes especially important when access is limited in portions of an existing structure or when scheduling demands require services at a moments notice.
We provide dedicated multi-certified inspectors to provide continuity of relationships, job knowledge and to bring cost efficiency and schedule responsiveness to multiple scope same day inspection needs.

Benefits of Concrete X-Ray Services
While Concrete X-ray is an older form of technology, it’s extremely effective at providing clear imaging. X-ray is generally considered more precise than GPR scanning since there is less room for interpretation of the results. The Concrete X-ray is able to show more detail about the condition of embedded objects such as rebar and can even show areas of corrosion or other defects.
Concrete X-Ray vs. Ground Penetrating Radar
GPR is also an extremely effective method of determining what lies inside of concrete structures. Ground penetrating radar is non-destructive and can be used to quickly scan large areas with no prior set-up necessary. Access is only needed for one side of a slab or structure, and the radar can generally penetrate depths of 18-24”. GPR Services are comparatively lower in cost than other methods such as concrete x-ray imaging. Inspection Resources offers both Concrete X-Ray Service as well as GPR Service and can help you decide what the ideal method is for your needs.
